Reading - Melting Pot

Before I came here, I didn’t have idea about the many diverse cultures that America has. So, when I started to live in Chicago, I was surprised. Almost the most important cultures of all the world are here, and even each one have its own town (i.e. Chinatown and Mexican side). At the end of the story, each culture established in the USA has adopted American traditions and customs. For example, in the case of Mexican food, here people use adding to the tacos chili beans, barbecue sauce or sour cream. But in Mexico, we don’t use these ingredients, we use spicy sauce.

I have always really loved music. One of my favorite songs is “Dream on” of Aerosmith. For me, Aerosmith is a musical group that has survived the time barriers, in which the constant is the continuous change and evolution of music. This band is very dynamic and has adopted different styles through all its years. However, I have always been flexible with the kind of music I like. Since I like music a lot, I have learned to keep in mind old rhythms and adopt new styles, getting a combination of diverse preferences in my I-pod.

"Traffic" won four Academy Awards in 2000, which were Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Film Editing. Also, the movie put together great actors as Michael Douglas, Benicio del Toro and Catherine Zeta-Jones. In the film, these characters wanted, in different circumstances, to get the control and distribution of drugs traffic between Mexico and the United States, and even some characters were fighting against this problem.

This movie takes place in two cities. One is Tijuana, Mexico as a location of two gangs, Tijuana Cartel and Juarez Cartel. These bangs have a battle to take the drugs distribution control in one of the most important places of drugs exportation to the USA. Other city is Ohio, United States, where the family’s new drug czar lives. That is the place where drug czar fights against this problem that is affecting his country, and even his daughter, who is an addict consumer of drugs.

I think that one of the most important technology advances is the cell phone. I remember when I was a teenager, if I went out with my friends or alone, my mom was always worried for me during the time I was away from home. I couldn’t communicate with somebody if I had an emergency and a public telephone was not close by. Now, when cell phones are important and necessary devices, I wouldn’t live without them, because I use my cell phone for almost everything. From localize relatives or friends wherever they are, to call 911 in case of emergency outside home. I like because I am localizable at all times. Moreover, I also get access to the internet by my cell phone, so, I don’t need a computer anymore.

In the creation of this glog participated Tiffany, Mila, Kevin and me. In our page, we want to reflect how Downtown Chicago is full of popular culture. In the first picture, we are showing that each one of us is part of popular culture, because we have adapted to other culture, since we came here. In the second picture, we are showing the Chicago City’s modern infrastructure, in which Chicago has became one of the most important places to visit in America. In the third picture, we are showing Navy Pier, where popular and familiar events take place on spring and summer seasons. In the last picture, we are showing the most important American symbol: the American flag, which proudly stores show it in front of their building. At the end, we achieved to take in pictures of the popular culture side of this beautiful city.

In TV, there are many shows and series to entertain the audience. Some of them are talk shows, dance shows, and even cartoons that make you stop your duties to watch them. In my case, I like to waste my time watching the TV series “Two and a Half Men”. This program is very, very funny. I enjoy to watch it, and at the end of the program, I really feel relax. Therefore, I consider that “Two and a Half Men” presents part of the reality of our days, but in an exaggerated and sarcastic way.

It presents the story of tree men. One of them is more than thirty years old and is too far of getting married, because he has decided to know many other people before do it. He is living with his brother, the opposite part of the story and his nephew. The other brother is a divorced man with a son, and he is looking for a good girl to live the rest of his life, even though he has not had good luck. These situations are very familiar in our time, when people don’t need to get married to enjoy their life.
